  18. <p>     Is something wrong with the 73-year-old President of France?
  19. For months the health of Francois Mitterrand has been a source
  20. of quiet concern among some world leaders. In the Florida Keys
  21. last April for talks with President Bush, Mitterrand looked
  22. deathly pale, says a U.S. official, and his color since then
  23. has ranged "from gray to green, neither of which is good." Some
  24. who do business with Mitterrand note that his once imposing
  25. intellect and presence seem dulled, apparently by fatigue. He
  26. tires easily in meetings and seems to have a short attention
  27. span; during last month's economic summit in Houston, Mitterrand
  28. looked ill and missed about two hours of the proceedings.

  30. <p>     Last week the French President's office released an official
  31. communique stating that doctors had detected a mild case of low
  32. blood sugar and low blood pressure during Mitterrand's
  33. twice-yearly checkup. But rumors persist that the full extent
  34. of Mitterrand's mysterious malady has yet to be disclosed.
  35. According to a well-placed official, Mitterrand travels with
  36. dialysis and transfusion equipment and received one blood
  37. transfusion during his Florida visit.
